Last weekend Will and I chose to escape to Mount Adams. The biggest problem was deciding which hike to choose during the short escape. And we finally decided on Sleeping Beauty Mountain Hike.
Highly recommended by Sleeping Beadey Mountain, we decided to commit! And the Holy Cow, let me tell you – this hike is Washington’s most underrated hike.
The elevation is the name of the game here, but the view from the top is worth the effort, trust me.
Hiking the mountains above the Sleeping Forest
- Distance: 3 miles away
- Elevation gain: 1,400′
- Estimated hiking time: 1 hour
- Type of hiking: difficult
What’s the name?
Sleeping Beading Mountain had its name because it looked like a sleeping woman (chest) in the town of Trout Lake on a rock outcrop.

Practice leaves no traces
You + Sunscreen = Best Friend (forever)
- i swear this Sunscreen, I discovered it in France and now I buy it in bulk. You’ll never catch me without it!
Wear tractive hiking boots
- The trail is well maintained, but exposed roots are common. It’s easy to trip in the woods, so set yourself up to be successful with the right shoes.
- These are me Hiking bootsAnd, if possible, I’ll sleep within them.
Hiking with a puppy
- Dogs are allowed on the trail, but must be connected to the leash.
Mountain hikes over the Sleeping Forest Overview
Sleeping Beauty Mountain Trail starts suddenly with Get Go. This gal will not deceive you, the gain of elevation is the name of the game. The hike is uphill all the way up to the Ridgeline at the summit.
The trail is fantastic, it passes through an impressive, dense forest of towering trees. I recommend taking in your opinion by adopting a simple pace in your way. What is Rush?
We took a 3/4 break from our road to the top and are pleased that we did as these 10 minutes of calm made us enjoy the views easily.

After a break, follow your path until you notice that the forest is beginning to fade. This is a good sign as it means you are approaching the summit.
As the terrain became less soil and more rocks, you made it a ridge line! Slow your heart rate while absorbing an incredible view of Mount Adams. And trust me – it’s even better on the top!
Once it’s full, raise the steep rocky switch to reach the top of Sleeping Beauty.

We know it’s hard to believe Mount Adams can look better from the Ridgeline, but to behold, she is in pure glory!
Plus, all Cascade Mountains will be fighting for your attention. Looking around, you can see Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens and Mount Rainier.

You can have snacks, or ten, a view – you’ve won it! Hiking isn’t easy, but the top reward is easy.

Once you fill in the summit, feel free to bow your head. The road is much easier than it appears, so take your time to enjoy the scenery!
Enjoy hiking the Sleeping Beauty trail on Mount Adams.

Fire Observatory of the Mountains above the Sleeping Forest
You may notice concrete blocks at the top of Sleeping Beauty. This was previously a Fire Observatory for Sleeping Fortress, but it has since been removed. Don’t believe it? You are smarter than you see.
