hey there,
Coach Matt Myers of Team Geek Fitness is here!
Steve writes his Monday newsletter in the story to help you level up your life in general, but he asked me to provide more specific guidance on health and fitness.
As far as Steve writes his newsletter, I’ve been doing this fitness thing.
(In fact, I emailed Steve in 2010, and we’ve been friends ever since – and now we’ve been coworkers for eight years!)
For 15 years I had the privilege of mentoring many people. I had front row seats to actually help people stick to fitness goals, even when life got messy (it always does).
Here are three lessons I learned. What coaches use every day is to support busy lives, big goals, and the brain that they don’t want to work with at all times.
Let’s level up!
🧠Lesson 1: There is no “regular”.
Please let me know if this sounds familiar…
“I need life to calm down a bit…and I’m back on track.”
Yeah. Is that version “regular”? It’s a myth.
Life is unsettling. that change.
Whether your child is sick, traveling, caring for a family, or trying to put his head on the water, life is never settling in for a long time, whether it’s a tough week at work.
So we plan to predict these challenges rather than derailing it.
In Nerd Fitness, this is called になったんです。 English: The first thing you can do is to find the best one to do.Dial modeになったんです。 English: The first thing you can do is to find the best one to do..
- Another workout you can do at home in 15 minutes when you’re stressed, tired and have a short time
- Simple nutritional habits that allow you to get back into a pinch (i.e., eat protein with every meal)
- Keep you on track with a list of meals you can grab on the go that suits your goals
Having multiple ways to get back on track will keep building momentum even when life is chaotic.
Usually not. And that’s what you’d expect!
🔎Lesson 2: Zoom in and zoom out
Have you ever thought about yourself?
“I want to get fit, but I’m only going now.”
or
“I used to be in great condition, but now everything feels that way difficult. ”
They are completely normal ideas! (🙋♂️I know I have them!)
But what I have observed over time is that these thoughts often drive people of energy and continue to persevere.
So, what do nerds do?
That’s where one of our favorite tools is included: Zoom in and zoom out.
Zoom in:What do you need to do today?
Zoom out (Every few weeks): Am I heading in the right direction?
Zoom in and focus on your daily actions with laser focus, avoiding the endless spiral of “I’m not there yet.”
Instead, you ask:
Word Did you train today?
ward Have you got protein and vegetables for every meal? etc.
Then take a step back every 1-4 weeks to see a larger image.
What’s going well?
What was the challenge?
What should I change and do I need to adjust my goals?
That rhythm – Dyrey focuses on regular, large icture check-in, is how the actual changes occur.
⚖Lesson 3: Make it meaningful and doable.
How do you know if your strategy is the right thing for you?
Find the right balance between challenging and viable.
Is it too easy? The needle does not move.
Is it too difficult? You don’t do it consistently to make a difference.
For each individual, the right level of challenge is different.
Maybe it’s tracking macros every day and doing three times more work per week.
Maybe it’s going for a daily walk and prioritizing fruits and vegetables with each meal.
Maybe it’s a heart-warming, slow eating and creating a bedtime routine to get a better sleep.
There is no “right” or “wrong” answer here. The correct level of challenge changes over time.
Don’t be afraid to experiment and adjust until you find that sweet spot: It’s a challenge enough to feel meaningful, but it’s doable enough to be consistent.
These three lessons were central to what we use within nerdy fitness coaching, and helped thousands of people take on a big shape, even when life throws curveballs.
Which one stood out the most to you?
