CHICAGO — The Bears announced the release of defensive ends DeMarcus Walker and tight end Gerald Everett on Friday.
The move saves Chicago to an estimated $10.75 million in salary cap space. The 30-year-old Walker was set to make $5.2 million in the final year of his contract, earning a cap hit of $5.916.
The Bears signed a three-year contract worth $21 million in 2023 and signed the veteran pass rusher on a $15.65 million bond. Walker has started 29 games over two seasons in Chicago. This included all 17 last year, totaling eight tackles and a career-high 16 quarterback hits with 3.5 sacks.
Everett signed a two-year, $12 million contract with Chicago last March, but was rarely used in the Bears’ offense (8 receptions for 36 yards). The Bears targeted the free agency tight end due to their relationship with former Chicago offensive coordinator Shane Waldron.
Everett’s release has won the Bears for $5.5 million in cap savings.
