Gujarat has withstanded heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and winds over the next 24 hours, and the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red warning to several districts. The warning follows the simultaneous activation of multiple weather systems that affect the region.
According to the latest IMD bulletin, districts under the red alert include Bhavnagar, Amreli, Ahmedabad, Anand, Valsad, Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli.
These areas are expected to experience severe thunderstorms and surface winds when they reach 60-70 kmph with severe thunderstorms, lightning and gusts of wind in isolated areas.
An orange alert has also been issued for a broader swathe of the state, encompassing Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Namarda, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, and Tapi.
Surendranagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Morbi, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Botad, Kutch, Diu, etc., and all districts such as Suurashranagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Morbi, Diu are also on alert due to moderate to heavy rains within the same time.
Watching May 8, IMD maintains orange alerts in Savalkanta, Arabali, Anand, Mahisagal, Baluch, Baruch, Barsad, Daman, Dadranagar Haveli and the Saurashtra district of Rajkot, Amarelli, Amreli, Babenagar, Guabunagar, Guabunagar, Guanagar, and more, as well as orange alerts for heavy rain.
The rest of the state is expected to see moderate to light showers.
Rainfall activity is expected to gradually ease from May 9th, but quarantined areas of Gujarat may continue to receive moderate rain from the light until at least May 13th. Current weather instability is attributed to the combination of atmospheric systems.
Cyclone circulation operates in northwestern Madhya Pradesh, about 0.9 km above average sea level.
Additionally, the trough ranges from northeastern Arabian Sea to western Madhya Pradesh in Gujarat, between 3.1-5.8 km above sea level. Another trough, east-west, runs from southwestern Rajasthan to North Jakand, affecting Madhya Pradesh and parts of Chhattisgarh.
