- Donald TrumpIn a social media post, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said he would “resign immediately.” It was an escalation of his public grievances about Powell, whom Trump believes is keeping interest rates high for no reason. Trump previously called him a “stubborn mule.”
Donald Trump is once again escalating the war of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell and his words.
In a social media post on Wednesday night, Trump called out his favorite nickname for the Fed chief, saying, “Too late” should be resigning soon!!!”
The latest complaints about Powell follow the charges from Bill Prute, director of the Federal Housing and Finance Agency (FHFA). defendant Powell lied to lawmakers last week while testifying to the Senate Banking Committee.
The senator asked about the play in renovations to the federal government office. Powell told the committee that some of the inclusions in the VIP dining room and marble tables were part of the old plan and were subsequently abandoned. However, Pulte says Powell should give “deceived” testimony to the senator and be dismissed from his role “for the cause.”
Trump linked Pulte’s accusations in his post.
Trump, who appointed Powell, has repeatedly attacked him since the start of the second administration, yelling that the Fed hasn’t lowered interest rates. Powell said in testimony last week that the Fed would have done so by now, if not due to the economic uncertainty brought about by Trump’s tariffs.
Trump called Powell a “stubborn mule” and sent him a handwritten letter complaining about interest rates, threatening to name the “Shadow” federal chairman who could undermine Powell for the rest of his term.
The Supreme Court shows that Trump cannot take Powell into office. Powell’s term will last until May 2026.
