On December 19, 2001, The Fellowship of the Ring was released in theaters and geek culture was changed forever.
If you’re like me, you associate these movies with the holidays and are about to watch all three movies (extended editions, of course) again.
was reviewing fellowship Recently, I came up with something interesting.
While they are in the mines of Moria, Gandalf reads the last entries in the Book of Mazarbourg, the diary of Balin and his fellow dwarves, and their expedition and demise within the mines.
Can’t get out:
The end will come soon.
I can hear the sound of drums deep down.
They are coming…
As I watched this scene, I couldn’t help but laugh as I remembered how people who go to gyms today are worried about the crowds coming in January.
“They’re coming…”
Right now, millions of people are gearing up for a new year, a new you.
Many of these people, including yourself, have decided that January 1st is the day they will return to the gym or resume their workout routine.
I think this is it wonderful!
Research shows that having a “fresh start” or choosing a specific temporal landmark, such as January 1st, can be beneficial for making changes.
But there’s one problem. “Going to the gym regularly” is not a single decision.
There are many decisions to make.
- Which gym will you join?
- Do you change at home or in the changing room?
- What is the parking situation like?
- What time of day is most convenient for you?
- What level of gym membership can I get?
- Do you choose a class or train alone?
- What equipment will you use?
- Do you know how to use that equipment?
- Do you shower at the gym or at home?
- How many times a week do you train?
- What if the equipment is in use?
If you find the gym scary or anxiety-inducing, doing all this in January is like playing a video game on Legendary difficulty.
The device you want to use may be occupied.
Parking situation can be a nightmare.
There is a possibility that the class you want is full.
We look for every excuse to say why we can’t do something. If you’re intimidated by the gym, or if it’s crowded and you feel rushed, your brain will beg you to stay home and never participate.
Now you can see your brain saying, “Wait until January 1st…” before trying again.
That’s good!
but! If you are willing to take some steps now, your chances of success in the future are much higher.
Here’s the challenge…
You don’t have to work out, just join us now.
This is a great opportunity to participate without any perks. More pressure from all humanity:
This allows you to eliminate all redundant decisions.
Which gym, where to park, what time to go, etc.
I’m a fan of Terry Crews’ advice for getting into the habit of going to the gym.
“Go to the gym, just sit and read a magazine, and go home. And do this every day. Go to the gym without even exercising. Just go.
Because the habit of going to the gym is more important than training. Because it doesn’t matter what you do.
You can have fun, but as long as you’re having fun, keep doing it. ”
Think of the next two weeks as a beta test without expectations.
There is no training routine to follow.
Make sure you know where your equipment is and how it works
I’m doing a dry run of what happens when I work out in the morning or at night.
Don’t beat yourself up for not being completely consistent.
Instead, now just focus on building the hardest parts of your routine (getting into your car, walking to the gym, and opening the door).
In other words, we can welcome January 1st with full force. And never underestimate how powerful that momentum is.
I’m not going to bribe you!
