Where is the summit?
One Vanderbilt Summit is the first observation deck in New York in East Side Manhattan, very close to Bryant Park and Grand Central Station.
The summit offers incredible views of the nearby Empire State Building, East River and even Central Park. And the best: It’s been open since 2021!

Grand Central Terminal Observation Deck
On the 59th floor there is an observation deck, with two areas highlighted by a glass floor projecting from the facade, similar to a Chicago skydeck. From there you can overlook Madison Avenue from a height of over 1,020 feet (310 meters).
It is the fourth tallest skyscraper in all of NYC and the fourth highest platform in the city. The building already matches perfectly with the rest of New York’s iconic skyline.

When is the best time to visit one Vanderbilt observation deck?
To answer that, I actually went to the observation deck once during the day and in the evening. Immediately: It’s incredible to be there anytime. Still, if you need to select only one of the two options, go in the evening.
Go under an hour before sunset and continue for 2-3 hours longer. Then New York is guaranteed a goose bump in the light and in the darkness!
What is the function of this observation deck in NYC?
One Vanderbilt is currently the tallest building in Midtown. It surpasses Steinway Tower. The skyscraper is exactly 1,401 feet and is now the fourth most abundant building in all NYC. One Vanderbilt and summit total cost over $3 billion to build.
From the 57th and 58th floors you can enjoy views of Midtown, and the glass windows over 32 feet tall are guaranteed to be truly impressive!

Restaurants and bars at Summit One Vanderbilt
Danny Meyer’s Union Square Events Company is responsible for food and drinks, the same company that operates numerous fine dining and bars in New York, so the observation deck is also a true highlight for foodies.
At the top of the observation deck there are two bars (one inside and one outside) as it is based on the deck below, where the restaurant does not have the unparalleled views of the city as it would be experienced at the Peak Restaurant at Edge Hudson Yard.
Things to see near one Vanderbilt Observatory
One Vanderbilt is located at Grand Central Station in Midtown Manhattan, so there’s plenty to see. Grand Central Station That itself Chrysler Building, New York Public Library in Bryant Park and Times Squarethe list is long.
If I were you, I would experience them all in that order and spend more time in the place where you like it the best. Personally, I really like Bryant Park. It is a small green oasis in the middle of a skyscraper, and you can also see the top of the Empire State Building!
