Jake Knapp broke 60 in PGA Tour history and became the first person to film under 61 in the same season.
He shot an 11-under 61 on Friday, beating Rocket Classic Records, which had only been standing for less than a day in the process.
But even that wasn’t enough to put him in the top six and get in at Detroit Golf Club over the weekend.

Chris Kirk (65), Philip Knowles (64) and Andrew Putnam (66) share a second-round lead at 14 under. Jackson Suber (65) was another shotback.
Aldrich Potgieter both scored 70 after sharing an 18-hole lead with Kevin Roy after shooting a record setting of 62, with Mark Hubbard being another stroke behind the leader.
Knapp was in a large number of players, including Morikawa (64), Matsuyama (66) and Roy (71).
Knapp, 31, who won the Mexican Open as a rookie last year, opened at 72 before starting the second round of 130 with a 156 player field.
“I probably only got upset all night, so I think I helped a little this morning,” he said.
Ranked 99th in the world, Knapp is the only player on the tour to film over 61 in two rounds this season.
He shot 59 from the 59th score record of 58 set by Jim Furik in 2016 – four months ago, he broke the tournament scoring record, cooled off and tied for sixth place.
Knapp broke an 18-hole record at Detroit Golf Club, set Thursday in the first round when Potgieter and Roy both shot 62.
“When I start making birdies, I want to make more,” Knap said. “When I locked myself in the third and final hall, I was thinking about 59 or so.”
The 28-year-old Knowles filmed in his first PGA Tour victory and made his third cut in 11 events after failing to reach the weekend in five consecutive tournaments.
“So far, it’s not my best year due to the wider imagination, but golf is fun,” he said. “When you’re playing bad, you’re not going to play good again. And when you have a day like today, you don’t understand how you can shoot bad rounds of golf.”
His sixth victory, the season-opening tournament at Kapalua last year, opened the second round with three straight birdies, finishing with nine birdies and two bogeys.
Most of the leaders were morning groups, with conditions being more favorable, with Putnam being the exception.
Putnam played in a hot, humid afternoon when the wind was hard and swirling. He starts strong with three birdies and a bogey on the front nine, then only gets one birdie in the back.
“The wind came into view and there were some tricky holes out there,” he said.
