MufasaThe title suggests it’s a prequel that goes back in time and explores what Simba’s father was up to before guiding his young son. Lion King. Of course, that’s a big part of it, but Barry Jenkins’ photorealistic CGI-animated musical also has a frame story set during Simba’s reign, in which an elderly Rafiki gives Simba’s young daughter Kiara the idea of Mufasa. It’s about telling a story. (This is how Disney ensured that fan favorites Timon and Pumbaa appeared in the cast.) Mufasa” is just “a month away” from release, and Disney is ramping up the promotion with a new featurette and some colorful character posters.
First, take a peek into Jenkins’ creative process with Mufasa: The Lion King, which shows the Oscar-winning director hard at work on the sequel to Disney’s 2019 blockbuster. lion kingitself a redo of the studio’s beloved 1994 animated classic. “Oh, how lucky Disney is,” Rafiki actor John Kani said of Jenkins’ talent, and we tend to agree.
It’s a sentiment shared by everyone in the video, from star Aaron Pierre to songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda. (It’s the interaction, as an excited Jenkins calls his co-workers “my dream cast.”) Plus, the animals (some more friendly than others) run and jump across the gorgeous landscape.
