I won’t write much about season 4 of the TV show because I’m more focused on video games. However, season 4 mythic quest That’s another issue.
The show, whose first two episodes debuted on Apple TV+ on January 29, revives the workplace comedy about a video game studio. The ensemble cast returns, including Rob McElhenney (as mercurial creative director Ian Grimm) and Charlotte Nicdao (as technology leader Poppy Lee). The show is good at skewering the sometimes ridiculous culture of the video game industry, and as it was originally created by Ubisoft, it hits the mark.
The show is as silly as ever, but I love that one of the opening scenes is about the Play Pen, a user-generated content gimmick aimed at reviving the studio’s core online gaming. By the second episode, users are busy making sex games and studios have to figure out what to do about it. David enlists the help of the studio’s ethics committee to find answers. And of course, the next big trend that will be covered on the show is AI.
Game tester Rachel (played by Ashley Birch) is appointed the studio’s head of monetization. She would be hard-pressed to be more evil than Brad Bakshi (played by Dani Pudi) when it comes to making money.
Studio boss David Brittlesby (played by executive producer David Hornsby) continues to be caught between studio heads and corporate headquarters. It’s still all too real when it comes to references to the ridiculousness of the gaming industry. It’s in preview so I checked it out.
The opening show, “Boundaries,” explores new responsibilities and boundaries as the characters’ lives change. Ian and Poppy returned to the studio after going independent. However, Poppy, who used to be a programming workaholic, is not working so hard now because she has a new boyfriend. What’s interesting is that the show acknowledges real-world game development issues, such as overwork and long hours without pay. So, of course, Poppy creates an AI version of herself to do the work for her and help Ian with his midnight glow.
The season will have 10 episodes, with the final episode coming to Apple TV+ on March 26th.
