Norway won again 2-1 at the Women’s European Championships on Sunday. This time they acquired an impressive Finnish team after monitoring the majority of the game.
Caroline Graham Hansen offered a class that Norway often lacked, and decided the game in the 84th minute, with a cross that turned from the post to a shot that ended in the net for Finland.
Norway’s Barcelona forced a unique goal from Finnish defender Eva Nystrom after excellent play on the right field.
Oona Sevenius was leveled 32nd to Finland, showing a delicate balance to induce a rise in the left foot from 16 yards (meters).
Finland’s tidy play impressed more than Norwegian more star-studded lineup for the majority of the game, as Switzerland did in the first half of Norway’s opening 2-1 victory four days ago.
“The result was cruel after the performance,” Finnish director Marco Salolanta said in a translated comment. “They have these world-class strikers, so they can’t give opponents with two goals in such a game.”
Norway currently scores six points above Group A, with Finland third in his first day 1-0 victory in Iceland.
Norway will go to the quarterfinals as the winner of Group A if Iceland does not beat host Switzerland in the second half of Sunday match.
Finland quality
Finland was lucky to fail to achieve two goals due to all the tidy play. After Norway hit a post from the crossbar and back-to-back corner, star forward Ada Hegerberg was denied by a brave blocking save from goalkeeper Anna Kovnen.
Finland was leveled in high-end finishes by Seven Swius after Norway was again taken to the ball by an effective press.
Finland dominated the play midway through the second half, forcing Norwegian goalkeeper Cecily Fiskerstrand to a diving save from shots by Katalina Kosora and Everina Sumannen.
Norway met later in the game, and Graham Hansen wasted a clear opportunity by spending so much time scooping up the shots to pick her spot on the 81st. It was easier than the chance that she would score in three minutes.
