Crace and Helsley were unanimously selected by a committee that included Hall of Famers Trevor Hoffman, Mariano Rivera, Dennis Eckersley and Rollie Fingers, as well as John Franco and Billy Wagner. The AL honor is named after Rivera, and the National League honor is named after Hoffman.
A three-time All-Star, Clase went 4-2 with a 0.61 ERA, 66 strikeouts and 10 walks in 74 1/3 innings, holding batters to a .154 batting average. The 26-year-old made 47 of 50 save opportunities, including the last 47 saves.

Helsley, a two-time All-Star, went 7-4 with a 2.04 ERA and 49 saves in 53 chances. He pitched 66 1/3 innings, with 79 strikeouts and 23 walks.
Ohtani became the first player to hit at least 50 home runs and steal at least 50 bases in a season. Ohtani, a two-way star who was limited to hitting after elbow surgery, led the National League with a batting average of .310, 54 home runs, and 130 RBIs, and stole 59 bases.
Ortiz won the DH award five consecutive years from 2003 to 2007.
The DH Award, named after Edgar Martinez, is voted on by Team Beat’s writers, broadcasters and public relations department.
