X users are no longer able to send encrypted messages on the platform. The company said That it is “pausing” functionality while working on some improvements. Users can view previously encrypted encrypted chats with cents, but cannot send new chats.
Previously, encrypted DMs were only available for messages between mutual verified users and between validated users who previously accepted DMs to each other.
