Union Fisheries Minister, Animal Care and Dairy Farmer Rajiv Ranjan Singh said on Saturday that the government is aiming to increase fish production from 17.5 million tonnes to 22 million tonnes. The federal minister here chaired the 11th Annual General Meeting of the National Fisheries Development Committee (NFDB).
‘The NFDB government body meeting had discussions about increasing fish production from (currently) 17.5 million tonnes to 22 million tonnes by focusing on technology, investment and innovation. Rajiv Ranjan Singh told PTI Video.
Meanwhile, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, along with members of fishing, animal care and dairy SP Singh Baghel and Ramesh Chand of Niti Aayog Member, launched Fisheries Startup Conclave 2.0 on Saturday, the official release said.
To support startups in manufacturing and related sectors, the Fisheries Startup Grand Challenge 2.0, launched as part of Fisheries Startup Conclave 2.0, said it will expand support to 10 winning startups with Rs 1 trillion in funding.
The Ministry of Fisheries said it has organized Startup Conclave 2.0 to promote innovation in the fishing sector. As part of this initiative, Fisheries Startup Grand Challenge 2.0 was launched to support startups in manufacturing and related sectors. The program aims to promote entrepreneurship, technological advancement, sustainability and increase production and efficiency in fisheries and aquaculture.
‘Through the Fisheries Startup Grand Challenge 2.0, support will be extended to 10 winning startups with Rs 1 trillion in funding. Each award-winning proposal will receive structured incubation support from ICAR (ICAR Central Fisheries Technology Research Institute), (National Fisheries Development Committee) NFDB or other relevant agencies of the Ministry of Fisheries.”
These incubators play a key role in providing startup instruction, capacity building programs and providing access to manufacturing infrastructure to effectively expand the solution, the release says. In the “X” post, the Ministry of Fisheries spoke to startup Conclave 2.0, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh emphasized that startups play an important role in creating jobs, especially for young people, and assured that the Indian government is committed to supporting and raising them.
Rajiv Ranjan Singh has officially launched the NFDB mobile app aimed at providing real-time information, resources and support to fishermen, entrepreneurs and stakeholders, and promoting growth and innovation in the fisheries sector.
