Kansas City chief tight end Travis Querce says “it takes time” before deciding whether to retire from the NFL following a Super Bowl defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Kelse starred in the Chiefs’ first 2025 playoff game against the Houston Texans, but struggled to win against Buffalo Bill as the Eagles brought a dominant 40-22 victory in New Orleans on Sunday.
The 35-year-old spoke candidly about his future during his latest episode. New heighta podcast in which he appears alongside his brother and former NFL star Jason Kelce.
“I know that everyone wants to know if I’m playing next year, and now I’m just kicking everything in the future,” Kelse said.
“I can kick everything, but I have not made any crazy decisions in the future.
“The biggest thing right now is just being there for my teammates and being there for the coaches and I understand that there is a lot to this.”
Kelse is at the heart of an astounding run for the Chief who saw him reach seven consecutive AFC Championship games along with quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
On Sunday they were hoping for their historic third consecutive Super Bowl victory.
Kelse, who grew up after he began dating pop star Taylor Swift in 2023, admits that the Chiefs’ incredible success hit him.
He states: .
“I mean, I’m playing three extra games than everyone else in the league. It’s a lot of wear on your body. And it’s all about buildings focusing on your craft. , tasks at hand, all the challenges you set for yourself.
“And that process can be tough. It can weigh you down. It can make you better and drive you crazy at the same time.
“And now, that’s one of the things that got me crazy this year, and I think it’s going to happen when you leave your tail towards the back nine of your career.”
After accumulating 117 receiving yards and scoring a touchdown against the Texans, Kelse managed a total of six catches for 58 yards in the final two games of the Chiefs’ campaign.
These numbers represent a significant drop since last year’s postseason. He played a key role in each of the four victories that brought the Chiefs to Super Bowl glory.
He added:
“And on top of that, knowing that your team is counting on you, not being there in the biggest moment.
“I think it’s going to take a little while to figure it out, and I’m totally here for them because I don’t half the other half I think I owe it to my teammates.
“I think I can play. It’s whether I’m motivated or whether it’s the best decision for me as a person who takes on all the responsibility and as a person.”
