The social media giant, best known for users sharing real-life videos, went dark for 170 million Americans late Saturday night.

As the situation worsened, the China-based company issued two statements, the first informing everyone that it would be shutting down on Sunday, but a second message was released shortly after, banning TikTok. Unfortunately, a U.S. law has come into effect.

Additionally, just before the federal law took effect on Saturday, TikTok’s app was removed from major app stores including Apple and Google.

The law prohibits app stores from offering TikTok and requires the platform’s owner, ByteDance, to sell it or face being banned. ByteDance clearly chose the second option.
As you know… Congress has been warning for years about the pitfalls of TikTok, calling it a national security threat because of its ties to China, which could access the personal information of U.S. users. Ta.
