Ah, Marshall sound. I don’t know how many concerts attended where the Marshall amp stack stood in the Sentinel behind the musician.
Needless to say, when Marshall wants me to review something for them, I’m happy to do so. That’s what Marshall Emberton III Bluetooth speaker. This tiny (approx. 6″ x 3″ x 2.5″) speaker produces more sounds than you would expect (without distortion). When you combine the sound with the look (similar to the head of a small Marshall amp), you get a small speaker packing the Sonic and Aesthetic Punch.

My experience
Thanks to the Pixel 8 Pro, setting up the Emberton III was very easy. When I set the speaker to pairing mode, the pixels were automatically recognized. You need to love the Pixel Phone’s functionality that connects to your Bluetooth device.
As soon as it was set up, we performed the usual runthrough of “signals” by rush. I use that album as my litmus test. Should Sound), and 2) Geddy Lee’s bass lines are very active, which really highlights the speaker’s ability to accurately produce low-end sounds.
The Gold Locker button adds a class touch.

I’m not saying that the Emberton III offers the lowest end for your back, but that’s really good for speakers of that size. The frequency response of this device must be considered. This device is only down to 65 Hz. The bass guitar’s frequency range is 41.2Hz to 329.63Hz, so this particular device does not require speakers that immerse themselves in the 20Hz range. The kick drum, on the other hand, can reach that 20 Hz range. This means that the Emberton III can perfectly reproduce the exact bass, but misses some of the punches from the kick drum.
But honestly, what do you expect from a speaker of this size?

All the tracks from the signal sounded very good, even in bulk. That was one of the pleasant surprises from this speaker. It is usually the ability to handle volume levels that you think are appropriate. But if you want to seriously hit your head on your favorite track, crank this baby up. I won’t complain.
Another song I use to test the low end of the speaker is “Rowboat” in the coal room. This track really digs deep into the bottom edge and with the speaker on the right you can rattle the windows. Marshall took every bit of the song and didn’t flash. Certainly, it’s a bit of a missed depth, but it still does justice to the song.
The only connection port of the Emberton III is USB-C charging.

The Marshall app has three EQ presets: Marshall, Push and Audio. Unfortunately, there is no customization option. For me, push was the best option as there were a bit more Marshall and audio presets offered in the mid. The push gave it the best presence at the low end, pulling the mid a little down and providing a pretty good height.
But when I moved to something like Kate Bush, Emberton III was shining. When you listen to Bush, you really want to focus on her voice, and this speaker produced her sound so well that I could close my eyes and feel as if she was in the room she was singing to me.

And then “Heaven or Las Vegas” came by the Cocteau twins. Whenever I can hear Elizabeth Frasier Sing, I’m in a happy place.
ZDNET purchase advice
Well, seriously… I’m not saying this speaker is the best I’ve heard. But when it comes to speakers of this size, I’ll bet on the top of the list. It may not offer a low end that lives underground, but it’s just enough to know that it’s serious about sound. If Marshall adds custom EQ to the app, it’s instantly a go-to music when you don’t want to pack larger speakers or wear headphones. And 32 hours of playtime is not painful.
It may not be rated as high as an audiophile grade speaker, Marshall Emberton III It’s as good as you get with such a small footprint.
