The 2024 regular season was a tough one for the New York Giants, who finished with a record of 3 wins and 14 losses and had the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
For many in the rookie class, a loss like this was like experiencing a culture shock. Most students had achieved great success in college and had the conditions to win, so the lack of success took a toll.
“It’s hard to come to a game every week and try to do your best, and it’s not easy to fall short of that, but it’s hard to win games in this league. The difficulties we’ve had this year have affected me a lot. I think it gave me a learning opportunity.” Tight end Theo Johnson told CBC.. “I’m going to take that into account this year and this offseason because I don’t want to go through that again.”
Johnson, a fourth-round pick, was early with the Giants when he suffered a season-ending foot injury that required surgery.
At the time of the injury, Johnson had four consecutive games with at least five yards on target and five consecutive games with at least 35 receiving yards.
“I fractured my fifth metatarsal in the game against Dallas on Thanksgiving and had to have surgery before the end of the season. My recovery is going well. I’m almost acquitted and I’ll be completely acquitted. It will take a few more weeks,” he said. “My rookie year is over, but now I’m back on the right track.”
From losses to injuries, things didn’t go as Johnson planned or hoped. But with all of that coming to an end soon, the 23-year-old is hoping for even better things in 2025.
“I think I can play a big role and help rebuild this organization and turn this offense around,” he said. “We know what we’re doing is just a matter of going out there every week and continuing every week.”
