This year marks the 125th anniversary of the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), and despite concerns about tariffs, there are many manufacturers here who are showing off new models, including us and global debuts. So, without further ado, we’ll show you some of the coolest cars on display at the 2025 NYIAS.
Subaru Trail Seeker 2026
First up is Subaru on top of the docket. This is an early look at our second EV, The TrailSeeker today. The model is again based on the E-TNGA platform shared with Toyota’s BZ4X, so it acknowledges that Solterra’s follow-up may not be the most exciting announcement. That being said, TrailSeeker doesn’t have the most impressive range (about 260 miles), but its updated styling, larger body and improved off-roading capabilities make it more suitable for outdoor lifestyles.
2026 KIA EV4
The Kia rolls when it comes to EVS thanks to existing cars like the EV6 and EV9. At NYIAS in 2025, the company is trying to maintain its momentum with the US debut of the EV4, which incorporates many headline features from its previous battery-powered offering, but the expected starting price for even more affordable prices is $35,000-$40,000. It also features Kia’s improved I-Pedal 3.0 regeneration braking technology, which is still working today.
Kia EV9 Nightfall Edition
Speaking of EV9, there will be no massive updates in 2025, but Kia has launched a new nightmare version of its flagship Electric SUV. It features dark wheels, trim and badges, and black accents throughout the vehicle. Its color scheme continues inside the vehicle with exclusive, black interior decorations. And when I consider this to be one of the most affordable three-train electric cars, I think this is a pretty good way to wash the look of an EV9.
Genesis X Gran Equator Concept
Charged as a luxurious overlander, the Genesis X Gran Equator Concept is one of the most impressive cars on the 2025 New York Auto Show. It features an extremely long hood and LED light strips, and it wraps around the sides of the vehicle and has taillights that match the back. Inside, there are upholstery interior items with flashy diamonds sewn on, but there are also dedicated holders of reusable water bottles that suggest its role as a potential camping vehicle. Also, Genesis doesn’t say what powertrain the X-gran equator will have if it reaches official production, but the lack of a grill before the clear grill means there is hope that it will become an EV.
Clear gravity
Gravity was officially announced later last year, but it has been available to previous friends and family to date, making it a relatively rare site on both trade shows and on roads. But in Nyias it was on display in all three rows of electric glory. Not only is it the fastest charging EV outside China, it can suck up to 400 kW, but it also boasts a maximum range of up to 450 miles. What’s more, thanks to its ability to add 200 miles of range within 11 minutes, it almost overturns the belief that EVs are not good for long road trips. And while it’s a niche feature, Lucid has created a special cushion that goes into that frank. It’s like I want a drive-in cinema.
Hyundai Ionic 5 n ta specification
The TA, named Hyundai Ion Iku 5 N TA spec, represents a time attack. And last year, that happened when we set a record with Pike’s Peak, an electrically modified SUV/crossover class, at 9 minutes and 32 seconds. But the most impressive thing about the car is, despite some obvious changes to its body (look at the size of its rear wing), Hyundai says that the TA was built to showcase the strength of the power-electric system of the Lugeria Ioniq 5 N. So, instead of replacing it with a one-off motor, this car has the same basic setup as the standard model (601 hp) with a slight boost with just 37 hp output.
Maserati GT2 Stradale
Despite us at Engadget’s preference for the EVS, not to mention at least one gas-powered car at the New York car show. The Maserati GT2 Stradale, unveiled in February, is essentially a road legal version of the GT2 race car, and is based on a truly outrageous MC20 supercar in itself. As you can imagine, despite having only rear-wheel drive, it has a rather impressive spec of 2.8 seconds, a fierce 0-60 hours, from 0-60 hours. It also features a carbon monocoque design, just like its truck-focused siblings, and can be ordered with semi-slick racing tires if necessary. So, if you’ve ever dreamed of driving a race car on the street, this might be your vehicle. That said, Maserati has not announced the official pricing for the GT2 Stradale. But as the proverb says, if you have to ask, you probably can’t afford it.
1924 Chrysler 6 prototype
Finally, the list cap is the prototype of the Chrysler 6, which debuted at the 1924 New York Auto Show. Certainly, this was ancient, but at the time it boasted the industry’s first four-wheel hydraulic brakes and a six-cylinder engine that produced a whopping 68 horsepower. When it finally hit the market later that year, the Chrysler 6 cost $1,565. After considering inflation, that leads to a sticker price of around $29,000, but in reality it doesn’t seem that bad.
