The best early Prime Day MacBook deals

Amazon Prime Day is set from July 8th to 11th, and as a resident laptop expert at Mashable, I’m tasked with hunting out the best Apple MacBook deals. My job this year will be really easy. Since its launch, Amazon has been busy with discounts on the M4 series.

That said, I recommend that most shoppers now wait for a MacBook to buy a little bit closer to Prime Day’s start time. All Air and Pro models are currently on sale on Amazon, but yes, but the current prices do not match previous lows. Put another way, we know we can do better.

One exception here is the basic configuration of the 13-inch M4 MacBook Air. This was marked at just $849 as of late June. This is a really great price and I feel comfortable supporting this model despite being technically cheaper once. (The Starlight Colorway fell to $829 in a short time on June 20th.) With incredible performance, open lid support for two displays, and an upgraded 12MP webcam, the M4 MacBook Air is realistically a steal for the standard MSRP of $999. Amazon’s decision to cut it down with an extra $150 of $150 from the release is daunting to me.

I would also like to mention that Amazon has only the M4 series recently. (You may come across a list of older models, but they come from third-party sellers you should avoid.) If you need a fair deal on your M2 or M3 era MacBook, check out Best Buy, which sells “Black Friday in July” the same week as Prime Day. We will also closely monitor prices during the event in case Amazon’s M4 Prime Day offers.

Mashable’s Stan Schroeder calls the latest MacBook Air “The Best-Buy Apple Laptop, Period” and praises its quiet vibrancy, upgraded cameras, “great” battery life and a very reasonable starting price (also Amazon reduced 15%). In his view, the only flaw is “the fact that there are few ports and the display refresh rate is only 60Hz.” The base model features 16GB of memory and 256GB of SSD storage.

Amazon’s $849 deal has been applied to several different colorways over the past few weeks. At the time of writing, the Starlight and Midnight variations were both inexpensive (the latter getting some help from the coupons on the page).
