Test method
Mashable’s staff has conducted rigorous field tests on every laptop on this list. This includes inspecting build quality and using it as part of your daily workflow for weeks at a time. This includes working with different types of documents, checking email, watching videos, taking photos with your webcam, joining video calls, listening to music (via Spotify), and playing games (if possible). (if any), and experimentation with unique software features and usage. The case they claimed to support.
Additionally, all of the laptops featured here are built to run industry-standard benchmarking software. We run these benchmarks to reproduce real-world tasks and generate scores that can be used to easily compare the performance of different laptops. We recently started implementing these benchmarks in our testing. We expect to see those benchmarks used in all new laptop reviews going forward.
Performance benchmark
Evaluate the overall performance of your Windows laptop by having it run the Windows version. Primate Research Institute geek bench 6measures processor performance in several common tasks. We record each multi-core score in our review. The higher the score, the better.
To get a feel for the graphical capabilities of your gaming laptop, you’ll also: play cyberpunk 2077 on them. I chose this game because the graphics are intense Triple A title This causes many systems to reach their performance limits. If your laptop has a separate/dedicated Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics card (as opposed to an integrated GPU built into the CPU), cyberpunk once with it DLSS Repeat with technology off and DLSS on, using the high preset without raytracing. This tests the machine’s raw GPU power and performance using AI upscaling, respectively.
I’ll follow up on this 3DMark Time Spy Benchmark your gaming PC and record your score. Again, the higher the better.
Battery life benchmark
You can expect the battery life of the Windows laptops we review to be around 9 to 10 hours, with 12 hours or more being ideal. When it comes to gaming laptops, it’s a different story. You just need to last at least two hours on a single charge to get approved, and you’ll earn extra brownie points when you hit the four-hour mark.
We’ve evaluated laptop stamina in several different ways. (More on this later.) On the Alienware m16 R2, Asus Zenbook Duo, and Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3, I did the following: UL Solutions PC mark 10 Battery life test. This benchmark completes a series of apps and functions until the machine stops.
We conducted video overview tests on an Acer Swift X 14, HP OmniBook X, Yoga 9i, and Surface Laptop 7, including loop playback of the 1080p version. tears of steelan open source short Blender movie (50% brightness).
To standardize battery life testing methods, tears of steel Get an overview of all upcoming Windows laptops. For now, we’ll stick to PCMark 10’s battery life test for gaming laptops.
final thoughts
After evaluating the laptop’s hands-on performance and benchmark test results, we’ll make a final recommendation based on whether we think it’s good overall value for money. You might get a pass on a laptop that’s too expensive if it looks and works great and you think it’s worth the trouble of finding it on sale.
It’s worth mentioning that these aren’t the only Windows laptops we’ve tried. We are constantly testing and evaluating new models across different categories, but many do not make the final shortlist. With that in mind, you can expect this guide to evolve fairly continuously. We are always looking for new top candidates.
