The New York Jets are 2-5, but there is no lack of talent on their roster. That’s still a pretty strong sign for a team to beat them, especially when they’re in explosive situations. The Pittsburgh Steelers regained some real confidence on Sunday Night Football. Defeat the Jets 37-15 Behind the 31 unanswered points.
“They are [The Jets] We needed that game last night and they got totally attacked and lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers,” said Damian Woody. ESPN’s Unsportsmanlike.
The Steelers looked pretty bad throughout the first quarter, but they were able to win in a big way. The defense was getting stops here and there, but Aaron Rodgers still sliced through the Steelers pretty well with rhythm passes. And the Steelers offense was completely inept for much of the first half. Until the final 30 seconds of the first half, they had only scored six points, but still managed to leave the stadium with 37 points. This means there are more elements to this attack. The unit has yet to play a complete game.
“The managerial showdown was a total mismatch. Let’s start there. Mike Tomlin, one of the best coaches, he’s going to wear the gold jacket one day, let me tell you that,” Woody said. “You can always tell, especially after the second half, that it’s a well-coached team. Heading into halftime, a real great coach will tell you how to make adjustments and do little things to get the best out of their team. We know how to do things. Look at what happened last night. One team was doing this and moving up in the standings, and the other team was struggling.”
Just look at the way Mike Tomlin chose to keep going for a touchdown at the end of the game and you could tell he was trying to get a point across. He made a scathing expose about Justin Fields’ benching and his 4-2 record, but instead put an exclamation point on why he’s been the Steelers’ head coach for 18 seasons. . Russell Wilson looked ready to take this team even further.
The Steelers look like a team ready to compete with anyone in the NFL. Their defense returns to being the NFL’s second-ranked scoring defense, and if the Los Angeles Chargers struggle on Monday Night Football, they have a good chance of finishing the week in first place. With a series of games scoring over 30 points, the offense is finally moving in the right direction. That was about average compared to the Steelers’ 23.0 points per game. With a solid place in the top 10, there is one or two more big performances to come.
“I think they might make some noise,” Woody said.
Tomlin’s big gamble paid off, and there are few teams currently in the position the Steelers are in that can compete to the end. Their aspirations to win a playoff game are definitely within reach, and their aspirations to compete deep in the playoffs doesn’t seem impossible at this point.
