inference: The fact that the Steelers chose to re-sign Isaiah Laudermilk altogether is a victory for him. On top of that, a lack of quality veteran reinforcements makes him drafted in relatively good condition. He may be inside the bubble right now in terms of creating a roster of at least 53 people.
The draft could fundamentally change the conversation, but for now, Isaiah Radhamirk appears to be in a decent position. If his barometer is making a team, he is probably in a reasonable position to do so for now. And that’s probably not where the Steelers wanted.
The Steelers entered the offseason knowing they needed to upgrade their defensive line. They knew the draft class would be deeper, but they wanted to strengthen themselves alongside the veterans. They reportedly wanted Javon Kinlaw, but he won his own price from their range. In addition to re-signing Loudermilk, they only made low-level veteran moves.
Even assuming Daniel Ecule will form a team, he will replace Larry Ogunjovi with a 53-man roster. Isaiahh Loudermilk returns to another season with the Steelers and at least there’s room for the draft.
But this is an argument that must be revisited after the draft, especially in light of free agency. Perhaps in a weak year for rookies, the Steelers were happy to pay premiums in free agency. But it is clear that they have decided to improve their line of defense in the draft and turn to veterans like insulation.
Former fifth pick, Isaiahh Loudermilk has completed his rookie contract with the Steelers. He re-signed a one-year veteran payroll benefit agreement, but certainly not the lock to build a team. However, he was in a similar position throughout his career, and was able to always build a roster.
The fact that he can help out on special teams is an important feather in his cap. But if the Steelers drafted two defensive linemen, Louder Milk could be in trouble. Or, at least on the practice team, that’s not really that bad.
