Although not the usual number, the Pittsburgh Steelers were still there on Friday pro day in Michigan. Defensive coordinator Terril Austin was in attendance. Dave Burkett at Detroit Free Press.
On Mike Tomlin’s annual trip, he and Omar Kahn remained in Pittsburgh, visiting team facilities to host QB Aaron Rodgers. A good reason to miss a trip.
Wolverine has a large number of draftable prospects, including a pair of first-round defensive linemen. Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant are school celebrities. Graham is considered the top D Leeneman in his class and is predicted to go within the top 10 pick. He’s unlikely to become a target for the Steelers.
But Grant is straight to become Pittsburgh’s pick at No. 21. It is an unusual blend of size and athleticism, so he was able to turn a 40-yard dash five seconds down.
Our scouting report focused on Grant’s ability to become more than just a 330-pound running stuffer. In his report, Jim Hester concluded:
“This isn’t the typical nose tackle from last year that can be phased out from the game. Grant is the dominant two-down DT with the potential to become a 3-down impact player as a pass rush. I think the NFL team is interested in him.
We compared Grant to Dontari Poe and gave him a one-round grade. Grant was also my choice in my latest Steelers Mock Draft.
Elsewhere, Johnson is the first round pick and could be a competition pick for the first cornerback. The injury hampered the 2024 season, limiting it to just six games. In three years at Wolverine, he recorded nine intercepts and a pair of picks six despite the shortened final season.
TE Colston Loveland doesn’t think it will work out today due to a shoulder injury, but will be one of the top two tight ends drafted. He joked with Pennsylvania’s Tyler Warren and was first in his position off the board.
Other notable prospects include De/Edge Josaiah Stewart along with RBS Kalel Mullings and Donovan Edwards.
I’ll update this post when I find other Steelers staff below, but at least there may be a scout that comes with Austin. Below is a scout report on all of the Wolverine outlooks we have written so far.

RB Kalel Mullings
