RENTON, Wash. — The Seattle Seahawks plan to place outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu on injured reserve with a thigh injury, officials told ESPN on Tuesday.
Nwosu, the Seahawks’ best edge defender, will have to miss at least the next four games. This makes them eligible to return for a Week 11 rematch against the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara following Seattle’s bye.
Coach Mike McDonald had already said Monday that Nwosu would not play Thursday night against the 49ers, adding, “We’ll know in the next few days if it’s going to be much longer.”
Nwosu, a seven-year veteran, missed the final 11 games of 2023 with a torn pectoral muscle, as well as the first four games of this season due to an MCL sprain he suffered on a cut block in the final preseason game. Sunday’s debut in 2024 was his first game in almost a calendar year, but the game was suspended after he played in 20 games in Seattle’s loss to the New York Giants.
The Seahawks will also likely be without rookie defensive tackle Byron Murphy II on Thursday night as they look to end a five-game losing streak against San Francisco. Seattle’s first-round pick has missed the past two games with a hamstring injury, and McDonald said it will likely be another week before he returns.
The Seahawks could also be without cornerback Rik Uhlen (ankle) and outside linebackers Derrick Hall (foot) and Boi Maffet (knee). Seattle held walkthroughs on Monday and Tuesday and listed Hall and Uhren as absent on both days on the estimated practice report.
Mafe, on the other hand, went from limited participant to full participant. MacDonald said Monday that his availability to perform Thursday night is “ultimate.”
News of the player being placed on injured reserve was first reported by NFL Network.
