Skydance Interactive today announced that the upcoming action-adventure game Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will no longer target the 2025 release, but instead moved to an early 2026 window. The company revealed the delay in social media postings, saying the game needs “more polish” to provide the best possible user experience. This made Marvel 1943 the second triple-A game of the month, pushing in 2026 following the initial planning window of 2025.
Skydance first unveiled Marvel 1943 at the 2024 Game Developer Conference. This describes the game as a story-driven action-adventure game set in classic 2018, and follows the adventures of Captain America and the Black Panther of World War II, Azuri. Skydance is working with Plaion to create the game, and the graphics displayed in GDC appear to be very realistic.
The studio hasn’t revealed much about the story so far, but the two have joined the two, with two other heroes, with Howling Commando Gabe Jones and Wakandan Spy Nanali on board, posing against the villain organization Hydra. The game is written by Amy Hennig, a veteran of the gaming industry known especially for its unknown series.
This is not the first major title to be delayed from the planned 2025 launch date. Earlier this month, Rockstar Games announced that it had set a May 2026 launch date for Grand Theft Auto VI. The game was originally scheduled for a fall 2025 window. One side effect of such a large game announcing a release window is that other publishers seemed reluctant to announce their publishers. The delay in Marvel 1943 may not be related, but the “early” 2026 launch window may mean that Skydance intends to release it before Rockstar’s Juggernaut.
