Sensex, Nifty rebound; Adani Ports, SBI lead gains, HCL Tech tops losers

Among the BSE Sensex stocks, Adani Ports, State Bank of India, Bajaj Finserv, Bharti Airtel and Tata Motors were among the top gainers.

Among the stocks that fell were shares of ITC, Hindustan Unilever, Infosys, Nestle India and HCL Technologies.

The Sensex and Nifty reversed their previous downward trend and ended the day on a positive note. Sensex rose 0.42% or 318.74 points to end at 77,042.82 and Nifty rose 0.42% or 98.60 points to end at 23,311.80.

Adani Ports rose 2.03% to emerge as the top gainer in the Sensex, showing strong recovery momentum. This was followed by State Bank of India, which rose 1.64% to close at ₹766.40. Bajaj Finserv’s stock price also rose 1.47%, making it one of the top gainers. Bharti Airtel and Tata Motors were among the top gainers, rising 1.46% and 1.43% respectively.

HCL Technologies led the losses, falling 1.87% by the close. Nestle India fell 1.38% and Infosys shares also fell 1.21%. Hindustan Unilever continued its decline, shedding 1.15%, while ITC closed 1.01% lower.

The Indian rupee fell by 16 paise against the dollar to close at $86.56, affected by the strong dollar, high oil prices and foreign capital outflows. Brent crude oil prices remain elevated at $81.93 per barrel, impacting market sentiment.

Markets showed resilience despite global headwinds, with both benchmark indices opening higher than their previous close, with Sensex opening at 77,319.50 against the previous close of 76,724.08 and Nifty opening at 23,377.25 against the previous close of 23,213.20. The opening price was recorded.
