Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry have confirmed that they will return to defend their title at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans on the PGA Tour this April. I live in Sky Sports.
McIlroy made his debut at the event alongside Laurie at last year’s contest, following the “drunk lunch” between the pair after the success of Europe’s 2023 Ryder Cup, and hopes to claim a playoff victory against Chadramee and Martin trainer I thought so.
The victory marked McIlroy’s 25th PGA Tour victory and Raleigh’s first victory since the 2022 BMW PGA Championship on the DP World Tour. The pair returned to this year’s event at TPC Louisiana from April 24-27.
McIlroy’s victory last year was one of four global titles in 2024, with World No 2 at AT&T Pebble Beach, including the Wells Fargo Championship and two DP World Tour victory at the next start. It first appeared in the 2025 PGA Tour season. Proam.
McIlroy got two strokes from Lowry in California. He finished his solo second. The pair have an impressive start to the PGA Tour season, where they are likely to become teammates in the Ryder Cup later this year at Bethpage Black.

The Zurich Classic in New Orleans will arrive two weeks after the Masters. McIlroy is the week after his RBC legacy at Hilton Head, aiming to pursue career Grand Slams and Lowry’s second biggest victory.

How does the event work and what format is it?
The 2024 event featured a team of 80 of two members during the opening round. There, players play their own balls, with the highest scores on each hole in the pair heading towards the team’s total.
Foursomes sees each team using one ball, one player hits a tee shot into every odd hole and the other player hits an even hole. The player then hit an alternate shot, getting a total stroke, and became the team’s score for that hole.
The top 33 teams and bonds progressed over the weekend, with the team returning to Four Ball in the third round and back to Four Sam in the final round on Sunday. Both players on the winning team have been exempt from the PGA Tour for two years, with the two teams sharing FedExcup points.
Since becoming a team event in 2017, no team has won a consecutive tournament version.
