Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell on Wednesday suggested that central banks hope that market volatility is likely misplaced.
“What I think is happening in the market is that the market is handling what’s going on, and the market is suffering from a lot of uncertainty, which means volatility,” Powell came to Chicago.
Given the uncertainty, the market is operating on the condition that it is in such a challenging situation.
Ready to provide dollar liquidity
The US Federal Reserve is ready to provide dollar liquidity through exchange lines with other central banks when necessary, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said Wednesday.
“We want to make sure the dollar is available,” Powell said in response to questions from an event at the Chicago Economic Club.
“The reason we do that is because it’s really good for our consumers, so we do it as part of the dollar to be an investment currency,” he said.
