General Motors added Over 132,000 large pickups There was a previous recall in the U.S. for tailgate release switches that could short out and open the gate while the truck was parked.
This recall adds certain 2024 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 trucks to the recall. 323,000 large pickups recalled in February. Only trucks with manual gates and power locks and releases are affected.
The company said in a document released Tuesday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that water could get into the electronic gate release switch, causing the gate to unlatch. If this happens, the luggage may fall onto the road and become dangerous.
The new trucks included in the recall came after 237 field reports of tailgates opening unexpectedly. Until repairs are completed, owners should make sure the gate is closed and latched before driving, GM said.
The dealer will replace the exterior touchpad switch assembly with a new one that is more water resistant.
Owners will be notified by letter starting January 13th.
