What’s shocking is not even the words to explain Boston Bruins Franchise legend Brad Merchant will trade to the Florida Panthers before last week’s NHL trading deadline.
Although it was a illegitimate end for his 16-year career at Beantown, one of Boston’s staples does not drive Merchand south without respecting the contribution of the left winger to the city.
Iconic Boston Brewery Samuel Adams collaborated with Merchand in 2011 toast his achievements, including the Stanley Cup.

The brewery “has a great spin on classic chandy style ale, perfect offset to Brad’s energetic reputation on ice. It’s a fruit forward with blackberries, a simple drink, and even enough edges to keep things interesting.”
“The Marchand (Y) is the perfect beer to toast into a career defined by passion, grit and an unbreakable bond with Boston,” reads the press release.
Bruins Trade Franchise Legend Brad Marchand to Panthers: Report
Marchand was the captain of the Bruins, making his move even more surprising. But GM Don Sweeney clearly tore the team – several veterans like Brandon Carlo and Charlie Coyle also left – Merchand and the team were unable to see what was spectacular at the end of the year on his expired contract, and the deal was made.
However, starting March 30th, Merchand’s face is still around Boston, as the brewing is limited edition only at the Boston Brewery, Samuel Adams, in downtown Boston’s taproom.
“Being captain of the Boston Bruins is the greatest honor of my life and I am proud to team up with Samuel Adams at Merchand as a tribute to my time in the city,” Merchand said in the release. “I will always be a Bostonian and I hope that fans will enjoy this beer and celebrate the unforgettable year they spent wearing this jersey.”

Panthers GM Bill Jeet confirmed on Sunday that the Merchand Trade beat the clock on the closing day this Friday, and the team thought they didn’t make it in time to land him. However, the deal went on, and Bruins fans couldn’t believe that one of the team’s franchise legends was heading somewhere.
Merchand is in the final season of an eight-year, $49 million contract he signed before the 2016-17 campaign. The Bruins front office has been reported not to meet with Merchand during his new contract demand next season, revealing that both sides are approaching a way to break up.

It happened, and Merchant looks forward to returning to the ice with another team as he is nursing a upper body injury he suffered against the Pittsburgh Penguins on March 1st.
