Hollywood is obsessed with prequels and sequels, but this creates a vicious cycle in which successful films require more, but sequels often don’t get made. many It’s worse than the previous one (looking at you, Star Wars). And if the movie is part of a vast series, a sequel may not actually be badbut it’s different enough from the previous one in that it turns the audience off. that’s what happened Furiosa: Mad Max Saga. At first, I was disappointed by the difference from this first part. Fury Roadbut I decided to watch it again on Netflix. Furiosa It’s a flawed masterpiece.
Furiosa’s conspiracy
In case you’ve been living under a rock (or in an apocalyptic wasteland), here’s a quick overview. Furiosa This will help you decide whether to stream it on Netflix or not. We follow the adventures of the titular Furiosa, who becomes embroiled in a violent power struggle between Dementus and Immortan Joe, who want to become the supreme leader of the water-and-gasoline-fueled world. you Fury Road Fans are watching Furiosa Watching it on Netflix may be confusing at first due to cast changes. The prequel film will see Anya Taylor-Joy replace Charlize Theron as Furiosa and Lacey Hulme replace the late Hugh Keays-Byrne as Immortan Joe. He barely appears in the film, but Tom Hardy is replaced by Jacob Tomri in the role of Max Rockatansky, and the cast includes Chris Hemsworth, who gives a wonderfully unconventional performance as Dementus, and others. A memorable newcomer has joined the team.
The reaction is apocalyptic.
George Miller, the creator of Mad Max, was appointed director again after the success of this first part. Fury Road (It made $380.5 million against a budget of $154.6 million to $185.2 million), and expectations for further cinematic success were very high. unfortunately, Furiosa It crashed and burned long before it was released on Netflix. The $168 million film barely made back its budget and grossed a relatively meager $173.8 million at the box office. The general consensus was that the movie failed because it was too different. Fury Road (More on this in a moment) But the production achieved a small theatrical victory in gaining critical acclaim.
At Rotten Tomatoes, Furiosa has a 90 percent critical rating, with critics generally praising the film’s unexpected emotional core and how it provides a fascinating background lore. Fury Road. It also had an 89% audience rating on Popcornmeter, with viewers generally praising the prequel as an action-packed installment of Hollywood’s weirdest series. This is what people who watched Furiosa Most people liked it…Unfortunately, unless this movie becomes a cult favorite on Netflix, the sad fact is that far too many people will skip it entirely.
Unfortunately, it took me a while to realize that. Full confession: I was one of the many Mad Max fans who was disappointed with this prequel because it was so different from what came before. Fury Roaddelivers a sprawling character-centered origin story just when I was expecting another non-stop, high-octane car chase. I looked at it once Furiosa I noticed it on Netflix I was the problem. I was judging this movie because it wasn’t a remake of Fury Road, when director George Miller clearly wanted to get back to the ambitious world-building he first really started. . Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome.
everyone remembers thunder dome From the famous showdown with Master Blaster in Thunderdome to Tina Turner’s wonderfully goofy overacting. But what’s often forgotten is just how much that sequel was steeped in lore and world-building, from how a post-apocalypse town generates energy to hero-worship centered around fragmented pre-apocalyptic memories. It showed us everything, including how it is formed. Although uneven and obviously not as good as its predecessor, of road warriorbut it gives fans a lot to chew on.
Should I watch it? Furiosa on Netflix (especially as part of a double feature) Fury Roadwhich is also on the streaming platform), you probably feel the same way. This prequel simply isn’t as great as the previous Tom Hardy/Charlize Theron masterpiece, but it’s great nonetheless. As long as you go to see it with an open mind (and ideally a healthy love for the Mad Max series), you’ll find the film to be full of entertaining performances and pleasant surprises. However, if you go to see Fury Road: Prequel expecting to see it, you’ll probably remember Immortan Joe and judge the movie to be “mediocre!”
So do you find Furiosa Will you make a flawed masterpiece like I did when it streamed on Netflix, or will you decide it’s time for George Miller to hang this series up like one of Immortan Joe’s blood bags? You won’t know until you try streaming it yourself. At the very least, consider researching this film… If our world were to descend into water wars like Max Rockatansky’s, Anya Taylor-Joy’s battle moves would make you a general. It could mean the difference between being a bad boy or just being a war boy.
Furiosa: Mad Max Saga Can be streamed On Netflix.
