The Denver Nuggets lost Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in free agency with no outside replacement. Christian Braun is expected to take his place at shooting guard in the starting lineup. Calvin Booth has prioritized the development of Denver’s draft picks with the goal of building a sustainable championship contender, but that may come at the expense of short-term success for Michael Malone’s team.
“There are rumors out there,” Zach Lowe said on the podcast this week. “Rumors! There’s a disconnect in Denver between the coaching staff and the front office, or at least the head coach and the front office. That’s unusual even in the NBA.”
Malone signed a contract extension with the Nuggets early in the 2023-24 season that reportedly runs through the 2026-27 season. Booth signed an extension in 2022 when he was promoted to the franchise’s top decision-maker following the departure of Tim Connelly. Booth’s contract expires after the 2024-25 season.
Denver is currently evaluating a possible contract extension with Jamal Murray, who will be a free agent in 2025. Aaron Gordon will also be eligible for an extension soon and has a player option for 2025-26 that could allow him to challenge for free agency.
