LG and Samsung are both announcing 2025 smart TVs at CES this weekend, and some of them will include access to Microsoft’s Copilot AI assistant. Both TV manufacturers are chasing the artificial intelligence hype by equipping their smart TVs with dedicated AI sections that include a shortcut to the Copilot web app.
LG is adding an entire AI section to its TVs and rebranding its remotes as “AI remote controls” to sell to consumers with the promise of a large language model. It’s unclear exactly how Copilot will work on LG’s latest TVs, but company explains Visit Copilot as a way to help users “efficiently find and organize complex information using contextual clues.”
LG has yet to demonstrate Copilot integration, but it has shown off its own AI chatbot built into its TVs. Copilot appears to appear when LG TV users want to search for more information on a particular subject.
Samsung launched its own Vision AI brand this year for AI-powered TV features such as AI upscaling, automatic HDR remastering, and Adaptive Sound Pro. There’s also a new AI button on the remote that gives you access to AI features like recognizing food on the screen, as well as AI home security features that analyze video feeds from smart cameras.
Microsoft’s Copilot will be part of this Vision AI section. “Samsung has teamed up with Microsoft to introduce new smart TVs and smart monitors powered by Microsoft Copilot,” Samsung said. in a press release. “This partnership will give users access to a wide range of Copilot services, including personalized content recommendations.”
I’ve asked Samsung for more information and images of Copilot in action, but they don’t have anything more to share at this time. We also asked LG and Microsoft for more information about Copilot on TV, but neither company responded in time for publication. There’s no indication of how Copilot will work on these TVs, so I’ll chalk this up to a gimmicky feature that LG, Samsung, and Microsoft clearly aren’t ready to demo yet.
