Lewis Hamilton, Silverstone, and the British Grand Prix. No driver has been more successful in home races. No driver has been more successful in one F1 venue. And few people in the history of sports have received long-standing praise on the exact same level of the crowd.
And it’s the celebrity of British Motorsports home to welcome F1 again this weekend, as Hamilton’s first season at the Ferrari Red, in the 2025 season.
The final two races were won by Mercedes George Russell of Canada and McLaren Randorris-Britt of Austria, but Ferrari is a “Big Four” team without a Grand Prix victory for one of the drivers after the 11th round.
But what is the grass with a chance to prove another notable milestone scene once again, after a year after winning a record ninth victory with Silverstone among some of the most emotional scenes of his career?
Hamilton will identify areas to improve after Ferrari’s Austria acquires
Ferrari certainly heads to Hamilton’s home race behind the morale-boosting show in Austria.
As Hamilton and Charles Lecrat agreed, Ferrari seems to have a positive impact on performance by the Ferrari introduced under the car last week, but the single upgrade, a fourth-year student in Formula 1’s current rules cycle, can’t absolutely change the fate of a team from one weekend to another.
Mercedes wilted in the heat over the weekend, and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen saw his podium outlook was destroyed by factors other than his control, Ferrari was consistently the second-fastest team behind championship leader McLaren.
He again led the way to Scaudelia, leading the qualifying round before finishing third in the front row – his third podium visit in the final four races, fourth overall in 2025.
Waiting for Hamilton’s podium return is now extending to the 13 worst races in his career, but could also refer to his personal advancements in the Ferrari car on his way to fourth in Austria.
He qualified just 0.090 more than his teammates – giving him his first second row starting berth at the Grand Prix this year, finishing in the same position that fits his best race finish at Imola in May.
Interestingly, though, although Hamilton’s lasting issue in the qualifying round, initially the most notable season and a half for Mercedes, and now Ferrari’s most notable qualifying round, the 40-year-old Austria said he would actually have to work in his racepace after finishing leclair nine seconds behind in Sunday’s 70-lap contest.
“I’ll continue to work with it,” said Hamilton, his form after the race.
“I feel like I’ve made progress this weekend.
“I was less than a tenth of a tenth of a qualifier from Charles in qualifiers and found a problem in Brake qualifiers where I lost a tenth of a tenth, so that’s positive.
“We have to find the pace of the race, but it’s definitely improving.”
Can Hamilton maintain his unique silverstone podium?
First of all, what is the chance for Ferrari to be a real podium candidate, with a focus on the fast sweep of Silverstone?
McLaren’s competitiveness is undoubtedly a seemingly doubtful on most tracks, and they start again as a big favorite, but Ferrari can also be expected to be more competitive with the other two front-running rivals compared to Austria.
Last year, Silverstone Poleciter with Russell and Russell, Hamilton winner Mercedes should welcome the fact that the UK’s heat wave is set to subside – even a shower potential on the weekend – this year’s Red Bull’s best shape is on track featuring fast turns.
For all of that, Ferrari hopes that taking a step at the pace from the final event will prove a solid foundation for building ahead of further expected upgrades before F1 summer vacation next month.
Then there is the unquestionable “Hamilton Factor” to consider.
Even in a more difficult seasonal context – the 2024 event certainly put it in bed, provided there is still doubt that the seven-time champions can generally find something a little more special for his annual Silverstone homecoming.
Hamilton arrived at the British Grand Prix last July, bringing to 56 races without a victory since December 2021, finishing only one podium in the previous 14 races, but produced a master Sunday drive in wet dry conditions to grab a race victory that was ranked as one of the best of his career.
Not only was it the record ninth victory at the UK Grand Prix, but it was the first time a driver has won the same race multiple times, but it was particularly emotionally important.
Hamilton then admitted: “There were definitely moments you knew, and there was the idea that this would never happen again, so honestly, I don’t think I’d come from victory, for this feeling to come across the line.
“And that’s a really, really, really wonderful feeling. I’m so, so grateful.”
The victory meant Britton extended another proud Silverstone record by highlighting it. This is a winning streak with a podium finish that dates back to 2014.
With a unique feat at every Grand Prix, Hamilton has finished on the past 11 British Grand Prix podiums. They won 12 consecutive Silverstone wins, counting the second race (70th Anniversary Grand Prix) held by the venue during the Covid Hit Campaign in the 2020s.
Emphasizing his stunning home record, only 35 drivers in the history of the sport have earned more than Hamilton has with Silverstone anywhere in his career.
“We’re here at Silverstone, a Lewis Hamilton truck,” he said. Sky Sports F1 Kalun Changduk.
“If the crowd wins there, isn’t the crowd absolutely mad?”
