Knox leaves The film received fairly mixed reviews upon release, but reviews were almost unanimous in praising Michael Keaton for delivering a nuanced and complex performance in an otherwise generally mediocre thriller.
Rob Owen of the Pittsburgh Tribune Review praised the film for its solid character-driven story, stating, “This is a small movie that puts more emphasis on character and human storytelling than on big-budget thrills or spectacular set pieces,” so anyone expecting big-budget spectacle might want to look elsewhere.
Carla Hay of Culture Mix gave the film a Rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes and stated: “Knox leaves “Though The Lily benefits from the acting talent of director and star Michael Keaton, this movie about a demented assassin is marred by an uneven tone and a pointlessly convoluted script with plot holes.” As mentioned above, the theme here seems to be that Keaton gives a great performance, and if that’s enough for you, you might enjoy the movie despite the fact that the actual content isn’t all that compelling.
