If LeBron James is ready to retire from basketball, he will likely make the announcement before his final NBA game, reports ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. While other greats in recent years, such as Kobe Bryant and Dirk Nowitzki, have announced their retirement plans well in advance, Tim Duncan waited until after his final season to make the announcement.
“LeBron signed a one-year guaranteed contract extension this summer, but I don’t see his career ending in a way that would lead to him leaving the Lakers and retiring just because he struggled throughout the season,” McMenamin said. “He’s going to be on his own timeline.”
“And I think we’ll all find out when LeBron’s final march — maybe not the last dance but the final march — will be. We’ll all find out and it’ll be must-watch TV, as LeBron’s tour hits 28 NBA cities and concludes with an epic farewell.”
“He’s not going to say at the end of the season, ‘By the way, that was the last one. [season]He’s going to want to dance and march his way out of the NBA.”
