According to official data released on Saturday, Indian airlines carried 1.45 crore passengers in March, an increase of 8.79% compared to the same period last year. The Indian airline flew a total of 1.33 crore passengers in March 2024.
“The number of passengers carried by domestic airlines in March 2025 was Rs 1,454,200, compared to Rs 1,336,800 during the previous year’s corresponding period,” the Civil Aviation Authority (DGCA) said in its monthly domestic passenger traffic report.
In the past month, Indigo transported a total of 931,000 passengers with a market share of 64%, while Air India Group (Full Service Carrier Air India and Low-cost Carrier Air India Express) flew 38.8 lakh passengers with a market share of 26.7%.
Two other major airlines, Akasa Air and SpiceJet, flew 7.2 and 4.8 lakh passengers in March 2025, cornering market shares of 5% and 3.3%.
Indigo received the highest on-time performance (OTP) at 88.1% in March 2025, with Akasa Air at 86.9%, while Air India Group and SpiceJet at 82% and 72.1% respectively.
The OTP is calculated at four metro airports: Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai.
