In past iOS versions, if you didn’t like the size of a widget, you had to delete it. After removing it, you have to go through the whole process of choosing the right size, adding it to your screen, and finding the right location. Now you can resize widgets instantly without having to take these additional steps.

Here’s how to add and resize widgets from the iOS 18 home screen.
How to add widgets to your home screen
Long press on the app until a menu appears. Next, you’ll see some new tiled icons in the form of different widgets.
For some apps, like Weather, you’ll see four different size options: the app icon, a small tile, a long tile, and a large tile that looks like the entire page. Other apps, such as Contacts, only show the tile icon and one other tile option. Tap the widget size you want to try and the app will expand to your home screen in real time. Some apps, like Messages, don’t have widgets, so you won’t see these options.
Prior to iOS 18, press and hold the home screen, then press plus (+) Sign in in the top right corner of the screen and search for the appropriate widget. Now you can easily add widgets without having to search for them.
How to resize home screen widgets
You can change the size of the widget as well. Long press on the widget until a menu appears and select the widget size you want to try.
If you have apps arranged a certain way around your home screen, adding or resizing widgets can break your custom layout. Unfortunately, I haven’t found a way to freeze the layout of a custom app, so you may need to rearrange the app again after adding or resizing widgets.
