In his keynote speech on SXSW, Kojima Hideo announced that Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding 2 will debut on the PlayStation on June 26, 2025.
Sony has also announced that there will be a Collector’s Edition (pre-orders will begin on March 17th at PlayStation.com). Norman Reedus (who plays the protagonist Sam in Death Stranding and Death Stranding) joins Kojima on stage.
Kojima also showed a nearly 10-minute trailer at Death Stranding 2: Beach, with plenty of cinematic scenes. In the early part of the panel session, Kojima announced the death stranding, saying the pandemic began a few weeks later. The trailer showed many scenes on the beach where the death effort was finished. There are strange giant black creatures with hands that they should have their heads. There’s a kiss between Sam and the fragile (played by Lee Sadoo) and talks about how death can’t separate them.
The little baby, Sam’s constant companion in the first game, is Lou. Lou is currently a toddler and must be protected by fragileness as the soldiers attack her on the beach. And Lou seems to be a pawn in a bigger struggle. The environment is very surreal and creative. And you can see how much work the Kojima, who edited the trailer, builds a world of death 2.
Higgs, played by Troy Baker, is back as a villain in the game. He was so popular that Kojima said he couldn’t kill him and had to bring him back. Baker’s own face will appear in the game and he will sing too!
“I really felt sick,” Kojima said that the first game was a need for humans to connect because the pandemic in the game that debuted on November 8, 2019 has effectively wiped out humanity, and he said the pandemic has separated them. Sam was one of the important delivery people who received packages to people spreading far away.
Baker said he loved how much he enjoyed working with Reedus and said he left the screen and said if there was no magic on the screen. The Reeds called Kojima a genius and thanked him for putting him in the game.
However, after the pandemic, Kojima had to rethink this as the pandemic spread the bacteria from person to person and he had to think more about connections. As a result, death monitoring 2.
Kojima says the Higgs behave so strangely that they reach the ending and probably throw the controller. Woodkid also appeared on stage. His song was in the trailer. He said that Kojima called him 2.5 years ago and asked him to come to Japan and write a song. He stayed for a few weeks, inspired by the lore of the game and beautiful performances. Kojima loved it.
There will also be a Death Musical Orchestra Show, which will begin on November 8th in Sydney, Australia, with the harmony tour strands appearing around the world. There will also be a special black watch from characters Hamilton is for sale as the game is released.
“It’s all about connections,” Kojima said. “And again fans. They were connected to me. I was very happy. The death tactics were about isolation, and then we had a pandemic. After death 2 is like a post-covid. We thought about the future.”
The trailer points out that the United States, which preceded the government of death, had a gun culture spread across “this continent.” There are even more battles in the game. With so many filming scenes, the game seems much more like a combat shooter. However, there are still some crazy “Islands alone” moments, like the little shouldered dummy character.
