Centre seeks to spend additional Rs 51,463 crore in FY25

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday marked the second batch of additional expenditures of Rs 51,462.9 for this fiscal year. Pensions and fertilizer subsidies form the majority of the proposed second expenditure tranches. These grants are additional funds that existing administrations will need to meet expenditures during the fiscal year.

Below are 10 things you need to know about this development:

  • The government will require total total expenditure for Rs 6.78 lakh krole. Of that, the total of Rs 6.27 lakh will match the savings and receipts.
  • This will lead to net spending of Rs 51,462.9 for the fiscal year ending March 31st.
  • Additional expenditures include a total of 12,000 crores of fertilizer subsidies and a total of 13,449 crores of government employee pensions, including the Uniform Pension System (UPS).
  • The total expenditure includes a defense pension against a 8,476 rupees.
  • It also includes a total of Rs 1,589.6 crores for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, an ambitious program aimed at providing LPG connectivity to poor households. In the 2024 budget, the scheme allocation was Rs 7,948.2.
