John AmosThe actor who led “Good Times” as patriarch James Evans has died, his son Kelly Christopher Amos announced.
The Emmy-nominated actor died of natural causes in Los Angeles on August 21, according to John’s son.

In addition to his work on “Good Times,” John is also known for playing weatherman Gordy on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and elderly Kunta Kinte on “Roots.” He was nominated for an Emmy Award at the 29th Emmy Awards. .
Fans of “The West Wing” will also recognize John from his recurring role as Admiral Percy FitzWallace.
John is survived by his daughter Shannon and son KC, whom he had with ex-wife Noel Mickelson.
He was 84 years old.
