The New York Giants need to make two very important decisions regarding the 2022 first round draft pick, outside linebacker Cavontibodeau and offensive tackle Evan Neal.
The fifth year option for both players is on the table this offseason (the deadline is May 1), and the Giants are unlikely to extend Neil.
“The Giants are leaning strongly towards picking up his fifth year option.” Written by Paul Schwartz of the New York Post Thibodeau’s fifth overall pick from Oregon in 2022.
The decision must be made by May 1st. If they pick it up, Thibodeaux is guaranteed $16.1 million for the 2026 season.
Former Giants executive Marcross is currently an NFL network studio analyst. The Giants think they’ll pick up Tibode’s options.
Thibodeaux doesn’t have the production that Big Blue envisions, but the injured (he missed the game in 2024 as a rookie) certainly does. His best season undoubtedly occurred in 2023. He defended 11.5 sacks, four passes and recorded three forced fumbles. He certainly did enough for New York to exercise its fifth year option. I think this organization would like to leave the dominant defensive line trio of Tibode, Brian Burns and Dexter Lawrence as is.
Thibodeau was Joe Shane’s first draft pick as the Giants general manager. He has some credibility and accountability to consider here. What do you say about his ability to judge talent if he doesn’t get both options for the top 10 picks of 2022?
