Gen-Z representatives call for change at DNC
The Harris campaign has generated a wave of enthusiasm among young voters, but how are Democrats going to solve the real issues that affect their lives? We spoke to four young delegates about the issues that motivate Gen Z.

“I’ve never voted in a presidential election before, but this election is extremely important. You hear a lot of, ‘we will fight and we will win,’ and I think that’s great. But I think we need to dig deeper into the issues that are plaguing our country. Right now, not only is housing too expensive to buy, rents are too expensive. It’s a work-or-die economy. So we need to tighten regulations on the housing and rental market. We need rent caps. We need people to understand that if you can’t afford to put a roof over your head, if you can’t afford to put food on the table, you can’t claim to be free in this country. For me, the most important issue, especially for me and my friends, is abortion rights. Not just abortion rights, but reproductive rights in general. My district had one maternity ward left, but it closed in January. The most important thing for Kamala Harris to win the young vote is to ban arms sales to Israel and to end military aid to Israel. “CEOs are making tens of millions of dollars, while some states still pay their cashiers less than minimum wage. So it’s really important that we stand up to corporate greed. If we want to see progress in these areas, I’m very active in those changes,” she said. “I have queer family members. I have a lot of queer friends, and they’re doing absolutely fine right now. But Project 2025 says they’re going to lose their rights. They might get fired from their jobs. They might lose their housing. Transgender people are always at risk. And this is just going to put them in an even worse situation.” “There are certainly a lot of issues within the party, and there are a lot of things that we young people don’t all agree on, but one thing we can agree on is that there’s hope for the future of our country, and that we can defeat a presidential candidate who could be very harmful and dictatorial and a threat to our country.”
