The Steelers reportedly have a one-round run with QB Jaxson Dart, but don’t assume they’re going to draft quickly. Even considering the importance of a quarterback position and current needs, there are more variables to consider. The scenarios are not parallel so you fall into that, but a good starting point is to remember Mason Rudolph.
If you remember, like Dart, the Steelers had a one-round draft with Rudolph in 2018, then you’ll also remember where they drafted him. It’s not the first round, not the second round, and it goes even further than that. It was in the third round, and in the third choice.
That’s right. They achieved a one-round record at quarterback in 2018, passing him twice. Of course, we need to touch on the warning, starting with the fact that they traded up in the third round to get him. And the Steelers don’t have a two-round pick this year if they want the Jackson darts.
However, unlikely, they can have one round of 35-40 players this year. The Steelers could prefer a fair amount of darts, and could still pass him on, seeing him as a starter. The problem is that you don’t even know what the quarterback Steelers first grade means. Does that mean a quarterback who they believe will win the Super Bowl and can play for 15 years? Does that just mean someone who believes they can be a starter for a while?
And it’s hard to believe they’re high in the quarterback class, just as they are on the defensive line. We can guarantee that this year’s linemen are more highly valued than the players drafted in the first round of 2018. Everyone thought of that reach, but still they didn’t draft Mason Rudolph there. Or in the second round. The Steelers should be able to find good value in the first round elsewhere. Why Jaxson Dart? Bet odds I suggest that he is not availableAnyway.
Now, the situation with the Steelers when they drafted Rudolph was different compared to the DART class. They still had a relatively young and healthy Ben Roethlisberger, who had drafted it to supplement the Championship Caliber roster. They don’t have Ben Roethlisberger now, and in fact are looking for it.
But I think we might be making too much because Jerry Dulac said the Steelers have a one-round record on Jackson Dirt. After all, he also said he didn’t think they would draft him. That’s unlikely unless all the top defensive linemen are taken.
So don’t draft Jackson Dirt just because they have him first round. Of course they might take him if available, but that’s rarely given. At least there are things we don’t know. Do quarterbacks who graduate in all first rounds shoot to the top of the list? I tend to think that’s not the case.
