I’m sharing a summary of Disney Cruise #5 on the Wish! Unfortunately, this post was not sponsored or compensated in any way. Just sharing my thoughts!
Hello friends! How are you today? I hope you are having a wonderful afternoon. I’m here in between client appointments, preparing for the second part of the day. Just picking up the kids and heading to after-school activities and homework can feel like a full day.
So let’s switch to vacation mode! Today I’ll be sharing an overview of a recent Disney cruise. It was P’s birthday and the timing was perfect with my RHS trip to Orlando, so we thought we’d celebrate it with some Disney World fun (for a pilot’s birthday!) and some cruise time. Ta.
In addition to our closest friends and fellow travelers, we were thrilled to have the pilot’s sister and niece join us. We are officially obsessed with Disney cruises. It’s the perfect combination of family time, adult time, great food, shows, variety of ports of call, and Disney cleanliness and service. This was my 5th time on a Disney cruise, but I have no intention of trying another cruise company at this point (lol).
Disney Wish (Castaway Cay and Bahamas)
Disney Wish review
The Wish is one of Disney’s newest ships and was truly luxurious. One of the most breathtaking spots was the atrium, which was lit up with a Cinderella skirt chandelier and had Halloween decorations while we were there. (It was Halloween on a cruise on the high seas.)
Everything was new to us so we had to get used to the layout of the ship. The restaurant was different and the kids were excited to check out the kids club. Although our cruise was only 3 nights, we had plenty of time to see the sights and take advantage of the amenities and entertainment.
Strong Points:
– Kids Club. The kids club was very nice. The kids clubs on other Disney ships are really great, but this club was next level. I can’t even fully explain it. you must watch this video. P and Nyla especially loved designing their own roller coasters, riding the slides and entering the kids club.
– It’s a show! I think the talent and entertainment on this ship was the best we have experienced. This says a lot, as Disney places great importance on high production quality. The shows were great, especially the Pirate Deck Party and the Sail-A-Wave Party right after departure. The music and dancing were lively, and when the characters came on stage and danced, everyone cheered and it was so cute.
– Aquamouse. The kids rode the Aquamouth slide at least 15 times while we were on the cruise. There’s a Disney short film that you watch in a double-tube tunnel (no single riders) and then you’re pushed out onto the main waterslide, which is awesome. It was Castaway Cay day and there was no line so P and I did it three times in a row.
– Snacks. There is a new snack area on the pool deck and it was very tasty. Cantina offering BBQ with pork, chicken, brisket and all sides, as well as build-your-own tacos, bowls and burritos.
There’s also a classic pizza spot and an “American food” spot with all-you-can-eat nuggets, pizza, macaroni and cheese, and soft serve ice cream.
– Ports of Call. We stopped at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, where we swam, snorkeled, and rented bikes.
We also stopped in Nassau and took a day trip to Atlantis. Atlantis was amazing. I’m planning on going there on a family trip so I’ll have time to explore more. The kids played all the water slides (Including this) and also enjoyed the beach and bay.
– Special holiday-themed activities. There was an Oogie Boogie Bash on board, where the characters wore Halloween costumes, and the sweet shop also had Halloween decorations and themed desserts.
Cons:
– Main dining rotation dishes. This time I was not blown away by the food in the main dining room. The best was Arendelle with live performance. While the interactive experience at World of Marvel was fun, the food was underwhelming.
– Gift shop! The gift shop was small and didn’t seem to have many Wish-specific items.
– Too short! We all agreed that the cruise should be at least 5 nights 😉
All in all, it was another magical trip and a fun cruise with family and friends!
disney cruise tips
Here are some of my top Disney cruise tips.
– Pack it in your swim bag and store it at check-in. (You can drop off the rest of your luggage and it will be delivered to your room when you’re ready.) The pool and hot tub are open and the least crowded part of the entire cruise. Let’s ride the water slide and enjoy food and ice cream! Try to check in as early as possible for pool time or lunch.
– Decorate your door with door magnets. Etsy has a lot!
– We also recommend that you obtain magnetic hook Perfect for hanging swimsuits to dry in the room (the walls are magnetic) and other items.
– I like to have water shoes for my kids, especially if I have a castaway day or an excursion to the beach.
– Pack your own collapsible beach toys – It will be very cheap and you can repack it or donate it to another family.
– Be strategic about your time on board. The kids wanted extra pool time, so when others are participating in the pool is a great opportunity. off boat. Since we had already been to Castaway Cay, the boat was empty so we stayed on the boat and did some laundry while the kids went on the slides several times. We had lunch and disembarked at Castaway Cay, where many people made their way back to the ship. Castaway was pretty uncrowded!
– fill pop up basket If you plan on doing laundry, a laundry pod is also recommended. I always like to do laundry on the last day. Unpacking clean clothes after a trip can make you feel a little less depressed.
– Daily navigator meal rotation, registration for excursions and additional activities, all within the Disney Cruise app. You can also send text messages to party members from the app.
– Room service. Room service is always available and included in the price. You just need to tip. There’s nothing better than getting the kids a slice of “cake of the day” or a few Mickey ice cream bars. When I get a carafe of coffee delivered at night, it’s still warm and perfect when I wake up. I also love the onboard coffee shop (not included, but worth the decaf almond milk latte with Moana printed on the foam lol).
– Please bring motion sickness prevention gear just in case. i always have small dramamine and motion sickness band Keep it in your backpack if you need it.
– One of my biggest travel hacks is using Amex Platinum. In addition to hotel rooms and perks, I also use it for free lounge access when I travel. You can often get early check-in, late check-out, room upgrades if available, and even dining credits at the hotel. Something amazing happened. Check it out from my referral link here!
So tell me, friends, are you a cruise fan? What’s next on your vacation list??
