Israeli cybersecurity company sierra announced today that it will acquire an Israeli company. trail securitya startup in a similar field of database protection. Both companies are portfolio companies of Gili Raanan’s CyberStarts. Trail Security, which has operated out of the media spotlight, was founded by graduates of the IDF Intelligence Corps’ Talpiot program.
Cyera announced that it will pay Trail Security $162 million in cash and company stock. Cyera was founded three years ago and has raised nearly $500 million to date. The company was valued at $1.4 billion in its latest funding round, completed earlier this year.
Trail Security’s 40 employees will join Cyera, including 30 engineers. Cyera estimates its development department will grow to 500 people within three years.
Especially quick exit for trail security
This would be a particularly quick exit for Trail Security shareholders. The company was founded in the middle of last year and has operated in secret. The founders are CEO Zohar Vittenberg, Nadav Zingerman, and Roei Mutay. Trail Security has raised $35 million from Cyberstarts, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Charles River Ventures (CRV). However, the majority of the payments will be made in Cyera shares.
Founded by Yotam Segev and Tamar Bar-Ilan, Cyera is considered Israel’s leading company in data security posture management (DSPM) for database protection for large organizations.
