Build a Rocket Boy, the gaming company founded by Leslie Benzies, announced today that it has acquired UK-based developer PlayFusion for an undisclosed sum. According to the latter, the studio will help build a collection of titles in development by accelerating the growth of Build a Rocket Boy. Build a Rocket Boy is currently working on the action game MindsEye, as well as the gaming platform Everywhere and a collection of UGC tools called Arcadia.
Commenting on the acquisition, PlayFusion CEO Mark Gerhard said: “The next chapter of our unified studio will not only deliver on that promise, but transform the industry by democratizing premium game development. PlayFusion’s core team has worked together for nearly 20 years, , we’re excited to be at the forefront of ushering in a new era of gaming.” The studio is currently developing Ascendant, a squad-based tactical shooter that recently went into open beta.
“We have always admired PlayFusion’s creativity and innovative approach to transmedia entertainment, and we are excited to join forces with them to take Build A Rocket Boy to the next level of excellence,” Benzies said in a statement. “It will be.” Our vision has always been to put creativity in the hands of our players, and PlayFusion’s shared passion for gaming is our shared passion for games, allowing our community to seamlessly build their own AAA-quality games and create engaging, original online experiences. It helps you create a robust service that you can quickly create. ”
Build a Rocket Boy raised $110 million in January with RedBird Capital Partners as part of a Series D funding round. The funding went toward building Everywhere and launching the studio’s Arcadia tools. Shortly after raising this funding, Build a Rocket Boy laid off an undisclosed number of staff.
