I’ve tested some video doorbell options so I enjoyed the latest one Lorex 2K Wi-Fi Video Doorbell. I got the battery operation option because I prefer the battery operation option for easy installation. More importantly, Lorex will abandon the typical paid subscription model of flat hardware fees. Is it worth it? Let’s look into it.

Setting up the Lorex 2K video doorbell has become easier as I chose a battery-powered model (wired options are also available). I charged it for a few hours and combined it with the Lorex mobile app and installed a bracket that required a doorbell. I already have an Eufy Battery video doorbell so I set Lorex next to it and compared the images both captured.
Once the doorbell is installed there is not much else to worry about. One of my favorites about this video doorbell is that there is no monthly fee. Whenever you need to be in charge of the doorbell, you can save and offload video recordings on a 32GB microSD card. If you are using a wired installation, store additional microSD cards and replace the video doorbell now to keep track of events that are important to you.
The Lorex app is also easy to use and navigate. You can view notifications, check live feeds, change doorbell settings, and check event history. Lorex is a well-known security camera manufacturer, and using this app you can access other Lorex cameras in one place at home.

Also, the doorbell has human detection so you won’t be notified when a spider is craving when a video camera or garden tree is shaking in the wind, making it easy to skip false alarms.
The biggest problem with this Lorex video doorbell is the image that is good quality at a resolution of 2560 x 1920, but appears to be distorted due to a 164-degree field of view. This is fine for a more affordable doorbell, but one worth almost $200 should provide a better visual experience.
People can appear distorted in the image. This isn’t a big deal when using a doorbell to see who’s at the door, but it’s bothering you when you re-watch the recording. As you can see from the comparison above, my Lorex doorbell shows a stretched image compared to a screenshot of the Eufy Doorbell, as evidenced by the extended UPS truck.

That said, the Lorex 2K video doorbell is excellent for everyday use. When someone is at the door and seamlessly integrates with Alexa, you’re sure to be on time with real-time alerts. So when someone rings the doorbell, you get a notification from the echo device. There is also a small LED light that turns on in the dark when approached.

The built-in LED is an underrated feature and is one of my favorites. It is useful when you arrive at your home in the dark and can use the brightness to find the key. I also like that when the camera detects movement, the light turns on, which can block intruders.

Even if I’m not a big fan of the wide-angle images it captures, I like quite a few Lorex 2K Battery Video Doorbell. This battery has lasted longer than my Ufo battery doorbell for the past few months and needs to be charged every other month.

It is also a great alternative to ring video doorbells as you can enjoy many of the same benefits without paying for a subscription.
