To be honest, we get a lot of mileage from the rough old tennis balls Molly found in the grooves, but the Chuckit Ultra Balls are far better at enduring the effort to shred them. Also, they are SlobberProof, don’t pick up that much mud in the first place, and it’s easy to wash. The only downside is that they tend to disappear in dog parks. – Steffen Shankland

If you have a dog that requires almost constant attention, you will do anything to keep you busy for a few minutes. I’m just using this puzzle toy for that. There are three swirling trays, where you can hide treats and your dog can work for rewards. My puppy has to use his nose to rotate the tray to reveal the compartments, so I want to keep his brain sharp as he has to solve the problem to get all the treats. Most gorgeous toys can’t rival my dog, the Junebug. These fluff and tuff balls take weeks to loosen the thread. As a result, she is obsessed with it and carries it with her everywhere (too big for her tiny body, but adorable bonus). She remains true to it, even after it is nothing but a sad, fine, hollowed-out shell. Eventually, I throw it away, buy her a new one, and the cycle starts again. My puppy Alistair is obsessed with his degaby flying disc as long as we have him. This has been around 14 years. The disc, made of flexible silicon, is as immortal as he retrieves, is easy for me to throw, and thanks to the neon colours, it can be easily found with a brush after the wrong throw.
